Lilac Mills spends all her time writing, or reading, or thinking about writing or reading, often to the detriment of her day job, her family, and the housework. She apologises to her employer and her loved ones, but the house will simply have to deal with it!

She calls Worcester home, though she would prefer to call somewhere hot and sunny home, somewhere with a beach and cocktails and endless opportunities for snoozing in the sun…

When she isn’t hunched over a computer or dreaming about foreign shores, she enjoys creating strange, inedible dishes in the kitchen, accusing her daughter of stealing (she meant to say “borrowing”) her clothes, and fighting with her husband over whose turn it is to empty the dishwasher.

My Review

When Elin’s divorce finalised, she determine to change who she was before. First thing was to make a trip back to Australia to see her sister and aunt and uncle. She has not been back since she got married. This is also to distance herself from her ex-husband, Tom who despite being married, has continued to disturb her life. While she was in Australia, she met Kit, the brother of her sister’s partner, who she met at the Airport. Due to an unforeseen accident, she have to go on a road trip with Kit to get to her aunt and uncle. Kit is a man who doesn’t know what is fun is and make it clear to her that this trip is not what he wanted.

This story is heartwarming about family reconciliation and relationship. All the characters in the book is likeable. Love Elin for her strong character despite of the failed marriage. Overall, this is fun read to me.

Maddie Please was born in Dorset, brought up in Worcestershire and went to University in Cardiff.

After a career as a dentist Maddie now lives in Devon with her exceptionally handsome and supportive husband. They have 4 adult-ish children all of whom have left home and are probably rather surprised by all this. She did warn them.

Maddie is a voracious reader, and would enjoy hoovering, defrosting the fridge and cleaning the windows but unfortunately she doesn’t really have time. She is very disciplined and sensible about her writing and she likes to write every day because it gets her out of doing the ironing.

My Review

Marion is looking to find her true self after a troubled childhood in Ireland. She also intend to find her birth father and along the way, she found new friends and family. When she stop at Pigs and Peace, she end up with a job and a place to stay. It was at Pigs and Peace, the story begin to captured my attention. This is a story of pains dealing with childhood loss and family relationship. The story evoked many flashback and at times, it confused me. The story started rather flow but when it start to pick up, it caught my attention but as the flashback keep appearing, it becomes confusing to me. Love Marion’s transformation into a strong women who allow herself to love and to be loved. Overall, it is a good read to me despite the various confusing flashback.
