The Woman Who Ran Away from Everything By Fiona Gibson

Kate is sick of being taken for granted by her husband Vince. It’s bad enough that she allowed herself to be dragged away from the London life she loved, but now she’s constantly compelled to keep up with the (very smug) Joneses in this small home counties town. She hates it here. What happened to the fun-loving woman she used to be? At almost 50 Kate feels lost, overlooked and like nothing is ever going to change. That is, until she comes home to an unexpected party – one that she has to cater.

And that’s it. The final straw. Breaking point.

Scrambling out the bathroom window, Kate leaves. She has no plan, but a chance encounter at Euston station sees her following her own heart for once – to beautiful Scotland where a crumbling mansion and a handsome bookseller could be just what she needs . . .

As Kate discovers, sometimes you have to feel utterly lost to find out who you truly are.

Book Review – The Wedding Gift By Carolyn Brown

A week before your wedding is one heckuva time for your ex to ride back into town, stirring up trouble. But that’s exactly the predicament Darla McAdams finds herself in. Darla’s on the verge of breaking up with her fiancé, Will Jackson—only a week before the wedding. Her parents would disown her, but Darla’s sure that her Granny Roxie will understand when Darla tells her that her first love, Andy, has come back to town. Thank goodness for a wise granny’s reminiscences of her own sassy wedding at just the right moment…

Published Date: 11 July 2023

My Review

Three delightful novellas, including a fresh release and two previously published works, make up this collection of charming country tales.

In “The Wedding Gift,” Darla’s impending marriage to Will Jackson is shaken when her old high school flame returns, prompting second thoughts. Granny Roxie and Grandpa Claud offer sage advice, guiding her toward clarity.

Following is “A Slow Dance Holiday,” a standalone Christmas romance from the Honky Tonk series. Jorja trades her dull Nashville job for a half partnership in a Texan Honky Tonk, only to discover her business partner, Cameron, is a lanky cowboy with dreams of bar ownership and ranching.

Concluding the trio is “Summertime on the Ranch,” a standalone from the Spikes and Spurs series. Becca, a former Nashville singer, now works at a winery, resisting the charms of cowboy Dalton. A canine matchmaker brings them together after six months of Becca’s initial reluctance.

Each novella offers a unique setup and romantic plot, infused with author’s down-to-earth humor and sweet, slightly spicy cowboy romance. Overall, it is a delightful blend of laughter, music, and love in the ranch country read to me.

Love Unscripted By Denise Hunter

The perfect boyfriend only exists on paper…doesn’t he?

Fresh off the heels of a bad breakup, Chloe Anderson poured her heart into penning the perfect boyfriend—and the result was an off-the-charts debut beach read that resonated with women worldwide. Now, Chloe’s scripted hero is headed for Hollywood, with her book destined to become a major motion picture.

When Chloe gets wind that silver screen bad boy Liam Hamilton has been cast as the ideal-in-every-way hero of her novel, she’s horrified by the film director’s choice. How could a player like Liam possibly do Chloe’s perfect hero justice? Unafraid to speak her mind, Chloe lets her executive producer know she’s one hundred percent opposed to the casting. And oops—the call is on speakerphone, where the annoyingly attractive Hollywood star hears Chloe’s unbridled outrage firsthand.

With Liam’s reputation already on the rocks, his agent concocts a PR plan to upgrade Liam’s image while putting the story—and the film—in the spotlight. The catch? During the movie’s filming in Chloe’s cute hometown of Stillwater, North Carolina, Chloe and Liam will fake a wholesome, committed relationship. Both stand to gain something from the arrangement. Liam’s fans will see him in a new light, while Chloe can boost her struggling social media following and further her writing career. What could possibly go wrong?

JAs author and actor navigate the waters of the PR relationship, they’re unprepared when their professional agreement turns into an actual friendship. And when serious sparks start to fly—well, that’s an unread chapter for both of them.

Book Review – Love At First Site By Phoebe MacLeod

A job offer could be her ticket to a new start, but it’s miles away on a construction site, an industry she knows nothing about. Can Ella prove everyone wrong and make a go of her new career? And will guidance from foreman Noah help her build a new, even better life for herself?

Published Date: 25 July 2023

My Review

Ella excels in organization, making her an ideal project manager, but her life takes a turn when her secret live-in relationship with colleague Lee violates the company’s no-relationships policy. The situation worsens as Lee sabotages a crucial contract bid and joins a rival firm, leaving Ella unemployed and her relationship in ruins.Forced to accept a project manager position at a construction company in Kent, Ella confronts challenges such as low-level sexism, a toxic boss, and the daunting “caravan of shit.” Simultaneously, she grapples with her attraction to site foreman Noah. Having experienced the complications of workplace relationships, Ella is wary of repeating past mistakes.

Ella and Noah proved to be delightful characters in the story. Ella’s remarkable self-imposed challenges were truly engaging. I admired how, despite working in a predominantly male environment, she asserted herself to earn the respect she rightly deserved, fostering wonderful friendships along the way. Noah’s character was equally commendable, earning my respect for treating Ella as an equal. He provided her with an opportunity in an unfamiliar work environment and played a crucial role in boosting her confidence significantly. Overall it is a great holiday read

Can You Keep A Secret By Jo Lovett

One New Year’s Eve, Georgie James and her friends come up with a genius plan to help them stick to their resolutions… They all write down secrets, seal them in envelopes and then post them to each other. The secrets will be revealed at the end of the year if they haven’t kept their resolutions.

It’s perfect. Except…

Georgie’s secret is BIG… and revealing it could destroy their friendships. She has no idea why she chose that one to write down. There are plenty of innocent things she could have said – even admitting she finds newcomer Raf incredibly annoying would have been better.

What she does know is that there’s no way she can let her secret be revealed. Which means she needs to keep her (nightmare) resolutions and, most importantly, get her envelope back before anyone can open it. Which, given she sent her secret to Raf, means spending a lot more time with him than she’d choose to…

Book Review – The Love Proposal By Camilla Isley

The moment you stop looking, that’s when Prince Charming will come knocking on your door!

Summer Knowles does not want a boyfriend. Relationships have caused enough problems in her life. As bridesmaid at her sister’s wedding, she’s going to avoid all things romantic – especially the brawny, hipster best-man who has commitment-phobe written all over him!

When Archie Hill meets Summer, he immediately thinks bridesmaid-and-best-man-with-benefits! They have one week together and may as well make the most of it. But what if one week just isn’t enough…

As wedding fever takes hold, can a sworn-off-men bridesmaid and a die-hard bachelor learn a thing or two about happy-ever-after?

Published Date: 22 July 2023

My Review

Summer Knowles committed a shocking act by engaging in a past affair with her best friend’s boyfriend, causing her to lose friends and strain her family ties. Vowing to remain single forever, she faces the challenge of a week-long wedding celebration for her twin sister, Winter. The situation becomes more complicated when Archibald Hill, a philanderer and the best man, proposes a no-strings-attached week together as a distraction. What begins as a week of fun transforms into something deeper.

Despite feeling undeserving of forgiveness for her past mistakes, Summer undergoes remarkable personal growth, leading to redemption and a second chance. Archie, previously a noncommittal individual, experiences love and desire for something more. Although their connection may seem like instant love, unfolding rapidly over the course of a week, the story is filled with intense tension and chemistry. In the end, the author skillfully crafts characters that feel genuine and relatable, eliciting empathy and encouragement from readers. The captivating narrative kept me engaged from start to finish.
