Meanwhile, the home faces threats from a developer seeking to buy them out. The story intertwines romance with everyday developments at the home, highlighting the challenges of caring for rescue dogs. The author raises awareness about rescue work and challenges faced by such organizations. The romance subplot involves second chances and miscommunication between Sally and Andy.
