Book Review – An Island Summer By Jenny Hale

All that Meghan Gray has left of her beloved Pappy is his cottage on the edge of the shimmering Atlantic Ocean. Longing to feel close to her grandfather, she returns to the golden sands of Hatteras Island in the Outer Banks for the summer, clutching the manilla envelope he gifted her tightly in her hand.

On her first night on the sun-drenched island, she meets brooding Toby Meyers, a local businessman. She might feel lost without Pappy, but looking into Toby’s sparkling blue eyes feels like coming home.

The beach house where she spent her childhood is just how she remembers: a shingled bungalow with two rocking chairs on the porch and shutters on the windows. As Meghan strolls along the sand with Toby, breathing in the salty air, she realizes she is making new memories…

When Meghan opens the envelope, she finds a black-and-white photograph of someone she doesn’t recognize. If she can find out its meaning, and why Pappy gave it to her, she’ll unlock a secret that has been hidden for decades. The truth has the power to change everything Meghan and Toby thought they knew about their lives—and it will either bring them together, or break their hearts…

Erica was the one who amputated his leg. Five years later they met again and Erica wonder whether he remember her. Thorne knew who Erica is even before her request to work was approved. Both of them battling their own demons and neither of them want long term commitment but couldn’t help when they were attracted to each other.

It is a sweet and emotional read for me. The storyline is well written about how love heal two people who really have been through some tough times and found found the happiness they deserve at the end. Loved watching the chemistry between Erica and Thorne.

Book Review – Love Out Loud By Marissa Clarke

A deliciously fun, flirty rom-com where love doesn’t happen by opening a door…it happens when you get stuck in one.

Veterinarian Fiona Nichols does not do well in stressful social situations. A little babble here, saying the absolutely wrong thing there. But that doesn’t stop Fiona from checking out the delectably hot guy in her building…from afar. Fate apparently has a nasty sense of humor, though.

Somehow Fiona gets herself and Hot Guy stuck in the building’s revolving door—all thanks to a certain squeaky dog toy…that unfortunately looks decidedly, uh, penile.

Must be time to meet the neighbors.

Turns out that Jake Ward is Fiona’s new public-speaking coach. A hot extrovert who always knows what to say. Fiona should hate the man on sight. Instead, she’s only finding him more attractive. And now she’s finally getting out of her comfort zone…only to get in over her head.

Brady is a dark haired attractive guy who can get any women he wants. Brady owned a successful company and decided to branch out by buying a castle hotel in Ireland. The plan is to renovate the hotel and turn it into a theme hotel and for the renovation, he requested the current hotel manager to meet him.

Aine is a fiery Irishwoman who wasn’t happy with the way Brady handle the take over. Worst still she doesn’t think Brady give her the due respect.

However, matter become complicated when both of them attracted to each other from the moment they met. Aine knew that a relationship with her new boss is a bad idea and it wont go anywhere with the distance between them.

Brady’s character come across as someone who keep his emotions. He doesn’t know what a family function and he don’t believe he will ever have one himself. Aine on the other hand, is a believer of love. Overall, It is a sweet story albeit a predictable one.

Olivia is a 30 year old virgin and offer her hand in marriage in return of support. She did so to help her family. She has 30 days to teach Tarek and to convince she is all he need in a wife and a good Queen to his kingdom

It is a well written story with 2 strong characters. Tarek come across as a strong, silent type of hero but bearing emotional and physical burden. They hide their true feeling pretty well too. Olivia come across as a strong character who willing to sacrifice herself but as the story progresses, realizes that she didn’t know as much as she thought.

After 15 years, Emma found herself to be back to her native Cornwall to get some inspiration for her work without realising that her first love, Luke is also in Silver Cove and is staying in her former home.

With Luke around, her past came back to haunt her forcing her to confront them. I love the way how her pasts was narrated and how all of her life’s puzzle pieces come back together. There are many secrets that people has been keeping and these was revealed which help Emma and Luke to understand and accept their relationship.

It is a perfect summer read in a breathtaking setting. I love the characters in this book and the friendship between the community.
